BookCycle

BookCycle brings HamSukhan's passion for community and shared experiences to life through the love of reading. Unlike our other time-bound activities, this journey has no set end date. Instead, it grows and evolves with each passing month.

BookCycle brings HamSukhan's passion for community and shared experiences to life through the love of reading. Unlike our other time-bound activities, this journey has no set end date. Instead, it grows and evolves with each passing month.

At our monthly gatherings, participants exchange cherished books, each accompanied by a personal note sharing its significance. Between meetups, readers explore their new book guided by thought-provoking prompts, keeping our community engaged even when apart. As our circle expands, so does our literary diversity and the depth of our connections.

"It was so nice to meet everyone and to talk about old times, aspirations, and among other things, books! I'm excited to read the book given to me which I would never have known about were it not for this cycle. I love how I'm reading different world literature."

"I’ve always been a big fan of reading, but getting to share my thoughts on the book while hearing everyone else’s perspectives was truly a refreshing experience. Add in a cosy cup of hot tea and meet some genuinely amazing people, and it’s safe to say I’m hooked."

Curious about BookCycle? We've Got Answers

What makes receiving a book from another reader special compared to borrowing from a library?

While libraries offer vast selections, BookCycle adds a personal touch. Each book comes with a heartfelt note from its previous reader, explaining why they cherished it. Imagine opening a book to find a handwritten message that gives you a glimpse into why someone else found it meaningful. This creates an immediate connection, turning your reading experience into a dialogue before you've even reached the first chapter. Plus, at our monthly meetups, you can discuss the book with the person who recommended it, adding layers to your understanding and often forging unexpected friendships.

I'm worried about fitting this into my busy schedule. How flexible is BookCycle?

What if the book I receive doesn't align with my usual tastes?

By the Pricking of My Thumbs

For this book cycle, I chose to bring Agatha Christie’s ‘by the pricking of my thumbs.’ While there are avid readers in book cycle, many people join book cycle to get into the habit of regular reading. For such people, a dense book can often be demotivating. Whenever I’m going through a reading slump, Christie is the only author who can get me out of it. Her mysteries are gripping and always neatly wrapped up with a bow.

December’s Exchange

At the Khokha, LUMS

On December 15th, BookCycle held its third meetup! The highlight was Khadija finishing Crime and Punishment - a book she took as a challenge.

The group welcomed new members Mahum and Ayesha, plus a surprise visitor Maheen from Islamabad. As Russian literature and philosophy discussions flowed, a curious cat was spotted inspecting Crime and Punishment's cover. Though she didn't sign up for the activity, she did eavesdrop on the conversations as the group planned to meet again in January.

November’s Exchange

In Suleman Dawood School of Business, LUMS

On November 3rd, we held our second meetup! This time, members returned their borrowed books from last month, sharing warm praise for each other's recommendations ✨

The group welcomed three new participants, including one who brought Man's Search for Meaning, a book previously featured by HamSukhan. The meetup's highlight came when Aazma settled an ongoing debate between Sara and Faaiz about Remains of the Day, ultimately declaring its ending to be sadistic - siding with Sara's interpretation.

September’s Exchange

In Suleman Dawood School of Business, LUMS

On 27th September, we hosted our very first BookCycle meetup! Participants brought along a book that held special meaning to them and exchanged it with others ✨

Each book came with a personal note from its owner, sharing why it was cherished. This thoughtful touch created a special connection, inspiring each new reader to explore their borrowed story with fresh motivation.
