Book Circles

Book Circles

Book Circles are a cornerstone of HamSukhan's community events, bringing together passionate readers who want to read more but struggle to find the time. Every two months, we carefully select an enriching yet manageable book that can be read within two weeks. The Book Circles create a motivating group experience for people seeking accountability and camaraderie around reading excellent books amidst their busy lives. They are an open invitation to all who battle with inconsistent reading habits to join a community of fellow book lovers.

The people, moderators, discussions, and checkpoints—every single aspect was so nice. Reading it alongside others was a whole new experience! The checkpoints made me stop and think more often, and hearing different opinions and experiences was the cherry on top of an already wonderful activity.

Joining a Book Circle, I was immediately inspired by the HamSukhan community, whose members created a welcoming, non-judgmental space filled with brilliant perspectives. In the community's small yet meaningful efforts, I find something truly lasting and valuable.

Bridging Perspectives Through Shared Reading Journeys

Bridging Perspectives Through Shared Reading Journeys

Why read the same book together with a group?

Reading in unison may seem peculiar initially. However, shared reading journeys cultivate fertile soil for insightful dialogues that widen our lenses. Our short two-week periods unite different readers on a shared journey of exploration. Tackling the multilayered book together mirrors blending perspectives like in real life. As we navigate tricky passages collectively, walls between strangers fall and universal truths emerge. By grasping new wisdom as one, you often leave with a changed outlook.

Mornings in Jenin

July - August 2024

With the ongoing genocide of Palestinians, our book circle aimed to read on the struggles of Palestinians with Susan Abulhawa's Mornings in Jenin being read by a group of 20. The book proved to be haunting and heart-wrenching as the group learnt about the struggles of those who longed for their home and suffered from displacement and the obstacles they later encountered.
